Manual Lymph Drainage
Manual Lymph Drainage consists of gentle, rhythmic movements for promoting the optimal functioning of the lymphatic vessels that link with the circulatory system and allow fluid to return from the tissues. The lymphatic system also has a role in the functioning of the immune system, as well as in removing waste, toxins, bacteria, large protein molecules and foreign substances from the body.
The technique promotes relaxation, relieves pain and boosts immune system activity. It is particularly useful in helping to relieve the build-up of fluids in the tissues from any cause, known as oedema. It is a good addition to any self-care practice, as it benefits health and wellbeing as a whole.
It is very different from a massage: The lymph vessels are located just under the skin so only very light pressure is used to stimulate them. The usual movements you receive in a massage do not help with fluid return in this way!
Manual Lymph drainage requires the client to undress down to their underwear. They are covered with towels to preserve modesty at all times.
